CADWELL PARK SUPERSTOCK 600 RACE REPORT 30TH AUGUST
ADAM, JAMES AND LIAM ALL DRESSED UP AND READY TO GO!
Cadwell Park British Superbikes 28th - 30th August with Team TK Cope MCT racing in the Metzler
Superstock 600 National Championship.
3 riders for Team TK Cope MCT this weekend! James East of East Racing this weekend joined TK Cope MCT for a ride on Terry’s bike. With Terry still limping around he took on the role as a
mechanic and watched on eagerly.
Saturday’s qualifying saw James doing a 1.34.99 just behind Adam’s 1.34.42, Liam, who was in group A qualifying, gaining a 1.36.79. Later that evening due to the unpredictable weather the team were told that method B for qualifying times would be used as it was felt that group B had an unfair advantage. This meant that even though Adam was 7 fastest overall his position of 13th on the grid did not reflect this. With James 15th and Liam 17th on the grid, it was going to be a great race!
Sunday evening was the memorial cycle ride round the track for Chris Jones and in the spirit of this many people dressed up to mark the occasion. The Lyon brothers both in pink dresses with their stockings taped to their legs and make up applied looked lovely! James, boldly dressed up as a monk, and, after some persuasion let Terry shave half his head! You wouldn’t have thought by the way they were dressed these boys would be competing in one of the most competitive racing series in the country the next day!
As the raced loomed everyone was up early to prepare themselves and the 3 bikes. With the weather being as ever so unpredictable everyone was hoping for a dry race but as it rained on and off there was just no telling! With just a 5 minute window to get 3 bikes and 8 members of the team down to the pits it was a real team effort taking down spare wheels and all the other things the bikes may have needed!
Thankfully the sun came out and the race started! With slower riders in front due to the method B qualification, Adam, Liam and James navigated their way through the first few corners of the narrow track. Adam pushed up to 10th and James took 3 people on the last lap before a red flag was pulled due to an accident. Back in the pits the warmers were back on and after a 5 minute break there was a 7 lap re-run. All riders were to start on the grid from the previous laps positions, unfortunately this meant that even though James had taken 3 places in the last lap, this was not counted and he would have to restart back in 13th. Adam was fortunate to start in sight of the leaders in 10th position.
Liam pushed through the bends of the narrow track to where he came home in 11th along with James who then had to repeat his hard work of the previous laps, finishing just behind with a hard fought 12th. With Adam’s times being the same as the top runners, these last 7 laps gave him just enough time to take over enough riders to finish 5th.
With 3 riders finishing, the team couldn’t have wished for a better weekend. The race was tough and so Adam, Liam and James had to really focus on their riding and it paid off! Liam is now 11th in the Championship and Adam 10th and James 15th. With just 3 more races till the end of the season everyone hopes all riders to be in the top 10 which would make it a season to be very proud of!
