Oulton Park Race Report May Bank Holiday
Start of the race, soon to be abandoned.
Oulton Park British Superbikes with Team TK Cope MCT racing in the Metzler Superstock 600 National Championship May Bank holiday weekend.
This weekend the team experienced rather an anti climax with the racing. The weekend started with real enthusiasm and great timings from our young riders; Adam and Liam Lyon, Terry missing this weekend due to a broken ankle but still attending in high spirits.
Through qualifying, Liam and Adam in the same group both worked extremely hard to gain their automatic qualifying grid positions. Liam’s ideal timing would have put him a very respectable 6th place on the grid however,due to a last minute fall and speedy recovery he managed to get himself a 20th start position. The team then worked hard all Sunday and Monday to get the bike race ready again. Adam’s timing put him right into the leading group. Adam pushed himself further and further into the 25 minute session until where in the last 2 minutes he listened to his head, not his heart and decided to pull in before exhausting himself and the bike. Adam at the end of the session finished 4th place putting him on the front row of the grid.
The boys race was not due to commence until 17:15 but as the British Superbike race ran over, Superstock 600 was not on the startline until 18:00. As the race began on the first corner a crash occurred and all riders were brought back into the pitlane for the track to be cleared. Oulton park have a 18:30 curfew where after this time no engines must be running on track, this meant that the riders would get 5 laps in at most before they would have to be off track by 18:30 and so due to many peoples disappointment, the race was abandoned.
The race will now be held at Silverstone World superbikes with all riders keeping original grid positions. Our riders are now fully in the swing of things and looking forward to Cadwell 21st to 23rd May.
